Group Meeting #1

Hello blog! In our last AICE Media class, everyone was individually put into groups with others. Now you may be wondering why people not originally in a team for the project are being put into a larger group. The answer is fairly easy... to fully reach your potential, you need a support system. We were put into groups for the sole purpose of giving feedback, helping them develop solutions to their challenges, and aiding team members with ideas (different perspectives). Therefore, I established my goal immediately. I was put into a group with Madison, Addison, Kiarmary, Oliver, Jacob, and Alejandro. All of them had different varieties of ideas, making this part of the assignment even more entertaining. Briefly, I will be going over each of their story ideas, their initial challenges, and the partial support/aid that the group was able to provide.

 Madison:

- Madison's story is about the fallout of a sibling relationship. She wants to show their fallout through different flashbacks, and she wants to make sure to show the past and the present. Her main goal is to show that the relationship is not the same anymore and how the main character deals with it.

Obstacle- It is a story regarding a relationship between herself and her sister, but the sister does NOT want to be a part of her film.

This could limit the number of different scenes she can do. Without another actor, it is harder to show that the issue is two-sided and that the negativity is reciprocated.

Solution- Get one of your friends to be an actor!

Addison:

- She did not present her project idea

Kiarmary:

- I quite enjoyed hearing her idea. Kiarmary would be working in a group, and her story mainly focuses on a spy theme. The idea was actually well developed. We were shown their script, which only elaborated on their original ideas. They wanted to do a type of opening that would have them introduce the character as someone cocky, and then she leaves with a suitcase (this is her mission).

Obstacle- Did not have much character development

Solution- In the very beginning make sure to use different props and angles to show off the type of character the girl is.

Oliver:

- From what I got, he has a cool idea. Oliver wanted to focus on the action genre, and his main goal was to show a fight. He wanted cultivate what looked like a drug deal gone wrong.

Obstacle- His plot was not truly developed, and his partner did not show up to class (lack of communication?).

Solution- Consider doing a solo project, and also told him to develop his character through misce-en-scene in the beginning.

Jacob:

Obstacle- Had no differentiation from other wrestling/sports movies.  And also has no setting yet... although a wrestling movie, he wants to only show himself (one-man show)

Solution- Told him to use different speeds and color grades on his flashbacks. And also to include a second character, something as simple as an arm in a shot can make it look like he's fighting someone; he should not just rely on audio.

Alejandro:

- Ale is doing a fast and furious dupe. With his group, he wants to enact a car chase and give comedic relief.

Obstacle- the script was informal and could substitute some words in order to make it more realistic and less cringey.

Solution- go over the script and change some parts, cut a few chunks (a lot of script).

Overall, everyone's projects seem really interesting, and I can't wait to see their original ideas flourish. You guys best believe I will be on my computer with some popcorn to watch their final products.
