My group was assigned to rock music. As of now and something that most people know is that rock is becoming less relevant. Of course there are loyal fans and maybe even people who thrive off their interests which are usually more underground. But the real truth is that nowadays people prefer pop and other genres of songs like hip hop. It’s a reality that Rock music peaked in the 1960s to 1980s and has therefore become a less mainstream genre of music in the industry. This was extremely important when walking into my individual planning and research for this project. It was crucial to understand the different ways that these two rock bands are becoming and/or staying relevant. I chose to work with: Inhaler and The Cure.
Now these two bands although both rocks are on the opposite side of the spectrum. With one being a young and new upcoming band gaining audience through their social media use of active engagement with their fans and intensive touring. And the other a band whose relevance stems from their legacy and influence on music in their younger years and their reliance on event marketing rather than constant social media use.
The plan was pretty broad, I would read any article and magazine that was about either band. And I also decided to engage with their YouTube videos, their Spotify albums and even their interviews (which was mainly for fun). This planning aided my research and made it easier to understand.
