Hi guys!!! Today I have to talk about audio for my opening film. Although a niche artist would work, I really wanted to use something general that the audience would be able to familiarize. A few years ago, I learnt in AP Psych class that using trending songs could immediately create an emotional connection between the audience and the piece of media. Which is why it is generally done, we can see that in the Wuthering Heights trailer, where a Charli XCX song that was insanely popular and trending was in it. This made the audience, including me, interested in what I was seeing on the screen. Not only that, but for your audience, it could make your film even more memorable and prone to enhanced focus and engagement. This is called the mood-congruency effect (which is why they use trending songs for specific films). Not only that, but using trending songs can enhance the sense of nostalgia in an individual, which could intensify the emotional experience.
Therefore, I decided to ask permission to use SHAED's one-hit wonder “Trampoline”. One that is still relevant today and most of my target audience should recognize (teenagers). I really like the idea of using not the whole song, but slight chunks of just the tune and melodies. I do think the song is a little bit preppy, so I want to avoid using too many words because it could negatively influence my openings aesthetically. It can throw off my audience by switching focus to the not needed words.
Overall, I’m hoping to include a portion of the song. I’m still analyzing to get the best outcome. I'm pretty sure it will all come together during editing.
This is the message that was sent on my behalf and the reply! I am just extremely grateful that they messaged back with an amazing attitude.
