Casting was pretty hard, one of the main reasons being that, surprisingly, I had many people willing to fill the spots. And it was because of this that I decided to hold auditions. My main goal wasn't just to get someone who looked the part. What I was looking for here was a blank canvas and some chemistry between the two actors. What I mean by blank canvas is simple: I want my actors to be like dolls, I want to mess around with their hair, dress them up, and do their makeup. I don't want them to simply feel like themselves in regular clothes i want them to be able to embody their character with the use of costume, makeup design. Keep in mind, I was also looking for good etiquette. I am super used to being in a very lightweight and freeing environment with filming because I used to do it with my friends. Although similar, it is still critical that I don't have distracting people on the cast. I also wanted to make sure that the actors are able to work with each other, I don't want it to be their first time talking...Because I am aware of how important it is to have someone as serious as I am about my project, I began the ultimate search.
Auditions were simple:
It wasn't a regular casting where people would act out dialogue, rather I decided to go a different route. I asked everyone who wanted to be a part of my crew to film a 45-second video (max.), asking them to answer the following questions: Why should I pick you? What would you contribute? My friends followed that, and I picked out the best responses!
Now I present to you MY CAST!!!!
Katherine Diaz as Sienna
Quick little recap, I met both of these gorgeous people during my freshman year in high school, and I am extremely grateful we were able to maintain a close friendship.
Not to be dramatic, but immediately I saw that there was a problem, my cast did NOT know each other...I decided to set up a hangout so we could all talk to each other and so I could see how they interact (also to hype them up about starring in my movie lol). We ended up going to get ice cream, and it went really well. I cannot wait to start filming!
